Employment contracts not yet signed for "The Big Bang Theory"

When a new television show like "The Big Bang Theory" comes on the scene, there is no real way to predict whether it will be a success. However, as Illinois fans of the show already know, it did become a success, and now its core cast members want a raise. With the first day of production on the newest season of the show already passed, employment contracts have yet to be signed.

Reportedly, the five cast members want their per episode paychecks to increase. The five actors are separated into two groups said to be conducting negotiations together. Jim Parsons, Johnny Galecki, and Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting are negotiating as one group and are asking for $1 million per episode. At the same time, Simon Helberg and Kunal Nayyar are negotiating apart from the other three.

The hit show was recently renewed for three more seasons, so that may provide an advantage to the cast during negotiations. The show, which boasts nearly 20 million viewers each week, is an integral part of the CBS fall lineup. Network representatives were said to be surprised that the actors did not show up on July 30 as planned. However, the network is still optimistic that the contracts will be signed in enough time to make the show's Sept. 22 premiere date.

Most Illinois residents looking to renew or obtain employment contracts are not vying for this type of money, but the negotiations are just as important nonetheless. Companies are often willing to give more in terms of pay and benefits to valued employees. However, it is just as important for the company to know the employee will fulfill his or her part of the contract by providing the company with the best he or she has to offer.
