Commercial real estate growth projected for 2016

Illinois investors who want to try their hands in the commercial real estate market should be interested to know that some commercial property financiers believe 2016 is set to be a promising year. According to Walker & Dunlop, an alternative lender known for going head-to-head with bigger financial institutions, its investors can expect growth due to gains in mortgage banking activities and the steady value of its own stock.

In February, the company expressed notable confidence when it made its report to investors. Although itexperienced less-than-stellar fourth-quarter results compared to the previous year, its revenue still increased by 8 percent to more than $121 million, and its net income settled at more than $20 million following a 26 percent raise. The firm's stock share earnings were also higher than expected.

Analysts conclude that prohibiting any major economic downswings, the company should be able to sustain its growth trends. It declared its intention to buy back $75 million dollars of its own stock, and the CEO said that its 2015 results were likely to continue. He also noted the fact that ongoing unrest in the equity and debt capital markets might actually be good for his company's profitability.

The profitability of investing in commercial real estate depends on numerous situational and legal factors. Some deals may be prohibited by laws that govern short sales and other transactions. Rules concerning zoning, tenants and liens can also impact whether deals must be modified before they'll deliver the intended results. Before signing a purchase agreement, prospective investors may want to have an experienced attorney review its terms.
